Ratings and Tasting Notes:
A completely new wine in Clouet's portfolio, filled in a special white-coated bottle with a matching outer box in a chalk cliff design. One-third of the Chardonnay grapes grow on the southern slopes of the Montagne de Reims and two thirds on the Côte de Blancs. The base wines of the first wine with no vintage labels come from the late-ripening, almost brutally brilliant year 2013 and are aged for 7 years in the bottle. Then freshly disgorged in spring 2021 with only 6 grams of sweetness. Although the Chalky tastes - as the name suggests - of the salty-chalky purism of the chalk floors of Champagne, it would not be a highlight if it did not also exude a wonderful, melting charm and seductive charm. 200 million years of minerality filled into the bottle as liquid chalk, what a smooth, delicious mineral hammer!
JS=93 Brimming with fresh apple, lemon and wild-berry aromas underlined by a note of freshly baked baguette, this begins so charmingly, then it turns in a fascinating mineral direction with a pronounced saline quality. The excitement comes from the tension between these two sides of this very distinctive champagne. Very long, chalky finish. 100% chardonnay from the 2013 vintage. Drink now.
