Ratings and Tasting Notes:
(AG=94) The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée de Jean Fannière Origine is 100% Chardonnay, vintages 2015 and 2014 from the 50 year-old vines in Chemin de Châlons, one of the most highly regarded sites in Cramant. Rich and ample, the Origine possesses superb depth and resonance that builds with time in the glass. The flavors are so remarkably pure. In the glass, the Origine is bold and enveloping to its core, not to mention a Champagne of gravitas ad character. Apricot, tangerine oil, smoke, almond, sage, and chamomile linger on the substantial-close. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 7, 2017.
(RP=93) The July 2017 disgorgement of the NV Extra-Brut Cuvée Jean Fannière Origine is still on the market, and it's now beginning to take on some mature overtones, mingling notions of dried fruit, honeycomb, and warm biscuits with aromas of peach and citrus. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy, and elegantly textural, with a delicate pinpoint mousse, lively acids, and a saline finish, it's drinking well today.
(WS=91) Sleek and minerally, with the fine bead-carrying flavors of Gala apple, tangerine, smoke, and oyster shell. This is well-cut and lively, with citrus and floral notes on the finish. Disgorged April 2016. Drink now through 2022.
From the Winery:
Dosage = 3 g / liter of sugar (Extra Brut) This Cuvée is dedicated to my Grand Father Jean FANNIERE who decided, in the 1950s, to no longer sell his grapes and to produce his own Champagne. The Grand Cru vines used at the time, located on the Cramant terroir, are still used to produce this Cuvée and are over 50 years old. The sugar dosage is "extra brut" (only 3 g / liter of sugar) and allows you to express all the minerality and finesse of these terroirs after 5 years of aging in the bottle. To taste with oysters, fish in sauce, or as an aperitif ...
