Ratings and Tasting Notes:(RP=93) Disgorged in July 2017, the latest release of Varnier-Fanni?re's NV Brut Grand Cru is superb, offering up an inviting bouquet of lemon oil, crisp yellow apples, warm biscuits and gingerbread. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, powerful but precise, with ripe acids, a deep and multidimensional core and a delicate mousse, concluding with an intense, vinous finish. Entirely composed of Chardonnay from Avize, Oger and Cramant, this is a blend of three different vintages and was finished with ten grams per liter dosage that seems very well judged. (WS=92) A full-throttle, malt- and whole grain-infused Champagne, yet with a creamy texture and fine balance. Russet apple, grapefruit and honey tones round out the flavor profile, with a long, toasty aftertaste. (AG=91) The NV Brut Grand Cru is a gorgeous wine. Ample, creamy and inviting, the Grand Cru possesses striking intensity throughout. The dosage of 10 grams per liter seems perfectly judged for the personality of these sites in Avize, Cramant, Oger and Oiry. Lemon confit, white flowers, mint and sage are some of many notes that build on the palate as this impeccable Champagne shows off its personality and breed. There is so much to like here. The current release is equal parts 2013 and 2012. Dosage is 10 grams per liter. Disgorged: April 2016.
