Ratings and Tasting Notes:
WS=93 Well-marked by new oak, this muscular white reveals butterscotch, honey, lemon and melon flavors, underscored by lively acidity. A little awkward now, but expressive and long. Needs time to come together. Best from 2018 through 2025.
AG=90-92 (from a 1956 planting; 12.2% alcohol without chaptalization): Sexy musky reduction to the ripe stone fruit and spice flavors. Ripe and silky but quite dry in the mouth; youthfully backward but clearly riper than the Monteé de Tonnerre and Blanchots, showing musky quinine and ginger notes and good saline, mineral firmness on the slightly aggressive back end. Piuze thinks that Bougros is the best-aging vineyard in Chablis and that its wines gain in sharpness with cellaring. "Bougros features a lot of earth over the bedrock but the fruit shows tension even in very warm years," he noted.
