Ratings and Tasting Notes:AM=89 Outstanding! A mild touch of reduction shaves the top notes off the otherwise slightly riper and more sauvage infused aromas of plum and freshly turned earth. There is good power, volume and punch to the robust and admirably concentrated medium-bodied flavors that display a subtle minerality on the overtly rustic and youthfully austere finish. This is virtually always a top performer chez Serafin and the 2014 continues that streak. AG=89. WA=87 Matured in 100% new oak, the 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a tightly wound, redcurrant and blackcurrant bouquet that actually reminded me of Sylvie Esmonin's Gevrey Vieilles Vignes down the road. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little hardness on the entry, leading to a chalky finish that feels a little overwhelmed by the oak.
