Ratings and Tasting Notes:

RP92 The 2017 Wiltinger Riesling is very delicate, fine and elegant on the flinty-crystalline, stony, lime and lemon-scented nose. With great energy and finesse on the palate, this is a remarkably fine, lush, elegant, beautifully balanced and linear dry Wiltinger. The wine is ripe, concentrated and very clear, and its finish is tensioned and salty, revealing a food-friendly mineral grip and stimulating lemon confit. This 2017 Wiltinger is a very promising Riesling of great elegance and finesse and the complexity of the red-colored slate terroirs. Tasted from AP #10 in June 2019. AG91 Saar-typical fresh apple, cherry and lime are garlanded with lily-of-the-valley on the nose, and the palate offers a seductive as well as refreshing combination of silken texture, infectious juiciness and inner-mouth perfume. Stony and ashen undertones, when taken together with fruit pit piquancy, tug the finish in a slightly austere direction, but it conveys ample refreshment, a formidable sense of energy and impressive sheer persistence. (As mentioned in my note on the corresponding 2016 and explained in greater detail in my note on the 2015, in deference to the VDP¡¦s demand for village-level Ortsweine, this bottling no longer advertises its vineyard of origin, which is the estimable Braunfels.)
