Ratings and Tasting Notes:
JS=93 Blackberry and blueberry with some cedar and dark mushroom character. It’s full-bodied yet tight and poised with pretty structure and balance. Try after 2024.
AG=91 The 2018 de Fonbel is wonderfully plump and inviting, which makes it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather, and licorice all come together in an understated, open-knit Saint-Émilion that offers tons of immediacy and pleasure.
RP=89 A blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Carménère, the medium garnet-purple colored 2018 Fonbel opens with pepper and spice box scents, before delivering a core of baked plums, mulberries, and fresh blackberries, plus hints of dried Provence herbs and underbrush. The medium-bodied palate is delicately styled, with a lively line of freshness and chewy tannins to support the fresh red and black fruit flavors, finishing with an herbal lift.
