WA=92+ Sourced from the plots Champ Dury and Les Esserts, the 2019 Grain Pinot Charrat is deep, intense and perfectly ripe in its beautifully pure, wide, fleshy and so charmingly lush yet delicate and well-defined Pinot and cherry aromas that I fell in love with it immediately. A crystalline spiciness is added and also some bloody notes, which make this Pinot already an exciting experience. Full-bodied, intense and powerful on the palate, this is a tight, complex and fully ripe Pinot with firm tannins, good mineral freshness and an intense but also warming finish. Although not without finesse and stimulating salinity on the finish, this is definitely a Pinot to be matched with roasted, nearly raw meat. Personally, I prefer the elegance and finesse of the 2019 Champ Dury, though drinkers who prefer structure and power will probably prefer the Charrat.
