Ratings and Tasting Notes:(RP=93) The 2018 Ech?zeaux Grand Cru is the broadest, most flamboyant wine in the range, bursting with aromas of raspberries, plums, licorice and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, rich and enveloping, it's gourmand and fleshy, with velvety tannins, succulent acids and an ample core of fruit. I suspect that after a decade in the cellar it will seem more classically proportioned than it does today¡Xas has been the case with Mongeard's fine 2003s¡Xthough readers who appreciate riper styles of red Burgundy may also find it hard to resist in its youth. It's a blend of Ech?zeaux du Dessus and Les Treux. (AM=90-92) More moderate wood influence frames the nicely cool and fresh essence of dark cherry, raspberry and a plethora of spice elements. There is fine volume and slightly better density to the suave and velvety larger-scaled flavors that offer better length and balance though a bit less complexity.
