Ratings and Tasting Notes:
(RP=93+) The 2018 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru opens in the glass with a deep bouquet of cherries, raspberries, dark chocolate, spices and rose petals. Full-bodied, powerful and elegantly muscular, its enveloping core of fruit is underpinned by rich structuring tannins. Built for the long haul, this remains nicely balanced despite its decidedly broad shoulders. This cuv?e derives from a parcel in Grand Maupertui and another in Les Chioures (next to M?o Camuzet's). (AM=89-91) Strong menthol-infused aromas include those of poached plum, cassis, earth and a whisper of game. The mouthcoating rich and velvet-textured flavors possess a highly seductive mid-palate though the warm mocha and bitter cherry pit-inflected finish displays a touch of acid tang that's bright enough to detract, if only mildly, from the sense of balance.
