WA=93 The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière is a great success in this challenging vintage, opening in the glass with aromas of green orchard fruit, woodsmoke, wheat toast and dried white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and textural, with considerable concentration, tangy acids and chewy structuring extract. This is an atypically powerful, rich but racy Truffière from Jouard, and it will likely become quite exotic with bottle age (think of the 1986 vintage), but it is beautifully rendered in its singular style.
