Ratings and Tasting Notes:
AM=92 Sweet spot Outstanding! A notably fresh if once again distinctly restrained nose speaks of the essence of pear, white peach and citrus zest, all of which is trimmed in softwood nuances. There is a refined mouth feel to the utterly delicious middle weight flavours that exude a fine bead of minerality on the generous and palate coating finish where a hint of bitter lemon arises. This is excellent in the class of these St. Aubin 1ers in 2016.
AG=91 The 2016 Saint-Aubin La Chatenière 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet with those hazelnut and lemon curd aromas that I remarked upon from the barrel. The palate is very well balanced, possibly a little "fatter" than I recall, but the acidity is superb and it feels reassuringly persistent on the chalky, almost flinty finish. Very fine. Tasted from a sample at home.
WA=90 Racy and incisive, the 2016 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru La Chatenière offers up a pure bouquet of crisp green orchard fruit, grapefruit pith, beeswax and wet stones. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, deep and concentrated, built around tangy acids that lend the wine tremendous energy that powers through the mouthwatering, delicately chalky finish. It's a beautiful wine.
