WS91 Rich and ripe, exuding peach notes, with a hint of orange flavor embedded in the fleshy profile. Balanced, lingering on a juicy finish. Drink now through 2021. 1,500 cases made.
AM89 OUTSTANDING TOP VALUE! Here too the slightly more complex nose possesses a smoky character on the petrol and overtly citrus-inflected aromas. There is better precision and tension to the mineral-suffused medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a notably dry and persistent finish. This isn't super-complex at present but the underlying material is such that this should add depth if it is allowed 2 to 3 years of cellaring first. Worth checking out.
RP88 The 2016 M_con-Uchizy Les Maranches reveals aromas of lemon oil, dried white flowers, beeswax and toasted hazelnuts, framed by light reduction. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with a glossy, expansive attack and one of the most giving, open-knit profiles of any wine in the cellar, concluding with a chalky finish. There's some muscat_ Chardonnay planted here, but its influence is less apparent today than it was six or seven months ago when I last tasted it.
AG88 (12.9% alcohol; all in foudre; from young, south-facing vines at low altitude on active calcaire; the lowest in acidity of these 2016s as the vineyard is located close to the Sa_ne): Bright medium yellow. Slightly liqueur-like aromas of pear drop and white flowers. Fat, supple and sweet, offering good concentration but only moderate nuance and grip to its flavors of citrus fruits and white flowers. I'd enjoy this wine on the young side.
