Ratings and Tasting Notes:
AM=94 A more subtle though hardly invisible application of wood frames a similarly composed nose of purple fruit and floral aromas that are not as spicy though markedly earthier. The impressively powerful, muscular and textured big-bodied flavours possess a firm backbone of tannins yet the mouthfeel is quite velvety, all wrapped in a serious and moderately austere yet well-balanced finale. A classically styled old school example that will demand patience.
AG=93 Bright red with ruby tones. Pure, perfumed scents of cherry, red liquorice and minerals. Delivers a superb combination of sweetness, clarity and cut but this wine is almost painfully backward today in spite of its obvious depth of fruit and mineral flavour. Forey noted that the tannins worry him but today I find more fruit intensity here than the Echézeaux. Clearly, this Clos Vougeot will require patience.
