Ratings and Tasting Notes:
AG=92 Brilliant ruby. Flamboyant aromas of ripe red berries, incense, potpourri, and minerals. Supple, fleshy, and alluringly sweet, with intense red fruit flavors coating the palate. Smooth, seamless and concentrated but also lively, with velvety tannins giving shape to the long, spice-accented finish.
WA=91 There are two Châteauneufs made in 2012, the classique and the Auguste Favier, with no Collection Charles Giraud. The 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape is another beautiful vintage here, and it offers classic kirsch, blackberry, roasted meats, and toasted spice to go with a medium to full-bodied, ripe, layered, and seamless style. The tannin here builds on the palate but is fine and polished. Give this another year or two and enjoy bottles through 2027.
WS=91 This is well-built, with a strong ganache frame and a racy graphite spine that drives through the core of plum sauce melted fig and blackberry preserve flavors. Picks up extra notes of Turkish coffee and roasted juniper on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2024.
