Ratings and Tasting Notes:(RP=93+) A 100% Merlot offering, the 2006 Faugeres Cuvee Speciale Peby comes from a southeast facing hillside site on limestone soils. It is one of the most concentrated wines of the vintage. Big and substantial with extraordinary intensity, abundant notes of graphite, blueberries, blackberry liqueur, and smoky oak, this dense, chewy 2006 requires plenty of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2025. (JS=93) So beautiful now, with raspberries and shaved-chocolate character, both on the nose and the palate. Full body with very fine tannins and very fresh acidity. This makes the beautiful red bright and delicious. Sexy. (WS=92) Shows blackberry jam, chocolate and lots of new wood on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a juicy finish. This is rich and concentrated for the vintage. Solid. Drink after 710 cases made. (AG=90-92) Ruby-red. Exotic aromas of dark cherry and coffee liqueur. Fat, sweet and densely packed, with very rich coffee liqueur and chocolate flavors complemented by burnished oak and lifted by spice. A large-scaled, sweet wine whose building tannins reach the front teeth. A second sample of equally high quality showed more fruit expression in the middle palate and finished with a firm acid spine.
