Ratings and Tasting Notes:
(RP=92+) Disgorged in September 2019 with 10 grams per liter dosage, the new release of Varnier-Fannière's NV Brut Grand Cru opens in the glass with notes of citrus oil, green apple, white flowers, and pastry cream that only hints at the complexity to come with more time on the cork. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and nicely defined, with a fleshy core of fruit, a delicate pinpoint mousse, and an attractively mineral finish.
(WS=91) A plushly creamy Champagne, with juicy acidity supporting flavors of poached apricot, lemon curd, blanched almond, and honeysuckle. Clean-cut and zesty on the lingering finish. Disgorged September 2019. Drink now
(AG=90) Bright and focused, the Brut Grand Cru has terrific energy, with a slightly vegetal edge that adds freshness without being overly intrusive, at least not at this stage. I would not push my luck with aging the Brut Grand Cru for too long, but it is undeniably beautiful today. The dosage is 10 grams per liter. This release is a blend of equal parts 2017 and 2016 from the villages of Avize, Oger, Cramant, and Oiry. Disgorged: September 24, 2019.
From the Winery:
Dosage = 10 g / liter of sugar (Brut) It is said that the reputation of a great Champagne House is played out on the quality of its Brut champagne ... Our Brut Grand Cru is a blend of different harvest years. The average age of its aging in the bottle is around 3 years. The color is fresh, pale yellow with jade reflections. The nose develops aromas of lemon mixed with notes of ripe fruit, apricot, and green apple. On the palate, the attack is lively, the balance and finesse of the Chardonnay are omnipresent with a slightly mineral finish. A perfect Champagne as an aperitif, which will delight all your guests to celebrate the present moment ...
