Ratings and Tasting Notes:
WA=91 From some three hectares of vines that are more than 50 years old, Charlopin's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries, cassis, spices, orange rind, petals and mint. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, it's perfumed and velvety, with lively acids and a long, saline finish. This is another of Charlopin's best communal-level bottlings.
AM=90-92 Outstanding Top value! A markedly earthy nose grudgingly displays brooding aromas of deeply pitched dark berries, underbrush and a hint of game. The exceptionally rich, suave and powerful middle weight plus flavours possess impressive mid-palate density along with a lovely salinity on the beautifully long finale. This is a big but excellent Gevrey village that is built-to-age. Note: from 9 separate lieux-dits and vines that are between 55 and 100 years of age.
